My 98 se sport (v6 ATX)has to go for it's bi-annual state smog inspection.

In the old days I would alwasy change the pcv and air filters, plugs, plug wires, oil, clean the EGR (if accessable) and run 92 octane gas.

How much of that should I do (if any) to the Tour before I take her in. I don't want to get told it's a gross polluter and have them take my car away (not quite, but the process if you get taggeed is really, really ugly.)

TIA,
Scott
This here Tour, my Lincoln, my bike and a random tbird.

Ford cannot build a car like this (1966 tbird) today because the US government says it is not safe. It has no crumple zones, air bags, or other safety features such as what you'll find in say, a new Toyota. But hit a Toyota with one of these and see who loses!

You shouldn't need to do any of that. If you are really concerned, pay to have a pre test first.

Scott,

If you take care of your car, you shouldn't have any problem at all. The last four times that I have taken any of my cars in for smog checks, the measured values (pollutants) were no more than 10% of the maximun allowed. Some of the measurements were nearly at zero.

The only thing that I would recommend to you is to make a copy of your results (the one that the smog check gives to you for your records) and include it with your registration renewal. [The DMV tells you that you don't need to do this, but I have had problems with the DMV _NOT_ getting the data the way they should. I had to mail a copy of the test results anyway.]
