I believe Quaif also makes gear kits for the mtx75. They are pretty pricey though.

Those are dog mesh style gear set. And yes, they cost more than my 3L Project, and definitely more than what my car's blue book value is.

Aren't dog boxes designed primarily for racing apps.

I believe so, because I think you have to double clutch to shift or you'll be grinding all day long.

Does the MTX-75 used with the 2.5 V6 Contiques have beefed up internals compared to the Zetec MTX ??

Does the Contour SVT use a version of the MTX-75 ??

Thanks...

For the most part, all the MTX-75's used are the same for our cars. SVT's included. The Ztec does have slightly different gear ratio's though. For more detialed info on that check here.

Duratec & Zetec MTX-75s have a different bellhousing.

Duratec uses a 4.06 gear
Zetec uses a 3.84 gear

Mid 2000 MY the MTX-75 was upgraded with stronger internals (syncros and gears) and the capacity dropped to ~2qts from ~2.6qts.

Also Ford changed the fluid spec at/around this same time to a 70-75W synthetic gear oil from Mercon spec ATF.

Think I can safely put gear oil in the MTX-75?

Demon,

Thanks for correcting that for me. I have no idea why I did not mention the bellhouseing differences.

SMACK!

Do you have a revised MTX-75?

If you do and live in a hot weather climate then running the synth gear oil would be a valid option.

I would recommend Mobil 1 gear oil.

I have thought about trying it out this spring. I'm due for a fluid change (2 years) anyway.

BTW - I finally answered the original topic question in my last post.

2.6qt & 2qts respectively.
