That would be fargin awesome. they should remake the taurus based on the volvo, rename it something cool, and SVT should make a bad ass one for like 25-30 grand. I would defenitely buy one.

Except the Taurus sells and has a large profit margin...

Two things the CDW-27 platform did not succeed at.

"Except the Taurus sells and has a large profit margin..."

Over 50% of Tauri sell to fleets at huge disounts, hardly a "huge" profit. And there is a glut of used year old former rentals, that they cheapen the value. Why get a new one when a dealer has 100 used ones for $4000 less?

The Taurus is going to fade away, like the Escort and other mid sized cars and crossovers are coming.

Also, this SUV "fad" has been going on for 10 years, so even I have given up on waiting for the day when this fad dies.

i could see ford dropping the taurus they've been dropping quite a bit of product lately...and speaking for a family that had a 87 taurus for 14yrs and now has a 2000 i can say that for all the design and engineering that went into it the taurus is a rather lacking car....my contour old as it is felt tighter faster and more capable only thing is that its not as sturdy as the big ol' 2000 taurus....maybe with the duratec the power is okay but the vulcan v6 is really inadequate....plus since they went to the flying egg shape of 96-99 family sales of taurus have never been the same....lot of fleet, rentals and company cars on the road

95 contour se...dark blue...monsterflow air filter...remanuf atx...wiring harness recall or bust!!!96k miles...motorcraft awsf32pp plugs & red ford racing 9mm wires...kvr black plated cross-drilled rotors & carbon fiber pads...currently undergoing renovation...excuse our dust!!!
are my dodgers for real????

"Why would they get rid of thier best selling sedan(Taurus) don't believe that one.."

The only reason it's thier best selling is because it's all they offer. Would you rather a 4 door focus or the Taurus?

From TheCarConnection.com's coverage of the Geneva Auto Show:

Quote:

IS MONDEO NEXT?

Ford is "looking at our entire European lineup to see what is applicable to North America," said CEO Bill Ford. It's been a number of years since Ford's European assembly plants shipped vehicles to the States. But lopsided exchange rates are certainly reason to reconsider that option. Among the more likely products to cross the Atlantic is the Mondeo, the latest generation of what Ford once called its "world car." The idea was scrapped awhile back, but said Ford, "we're looking again at it."
Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere.

To reply to the first post about "Ford will cease production of the Taurus in 2004".

Actaully, they will end production in Chicago and keep the Atlanta plant making Tauri, until demand dies down, just like the way the Escort became a fleet only car made in Mexico from 2000-2002.

The current Taurus could be around until 2006-7. It would be sold alongside any new mid size car.

A Taurus replacement based on the Lincoln LS/Thunderbird platform might make me look at another Ford.

If my plan goes well, I'll be looking for my (my wife has been getting all of the new cars) first new car since 1995 in spring of 2004.

So far it looks like I'm going to cash in my frequent flyer miles for a couple of first class tickets to Germany and pick up something in Munich laugh
