My buddy just bought an is300 and we are going down to Baytown this weekend. How does everyone think I will compare? Any suggestions?

It will get you...your buddy should easily take you out of the hole and keep in front of you. He won't really walk away once you get traction, but you won't catch him. Even in the corners I think he can hang with the Contour. They are incredible cars and don't get the respect that they deserve. If it tells you anything, I believe an IS300 took 1st at the SCCA Solo II nationals this year beating the favored ITR's and BMW's.

Same HP, just rear wheel drive (but you loose more to the wheels through the rear end gear), Qbert's right, you'll probabaly get beat off the line, but be dead even all the way down, and might slightely gain

IS300 with MTX is drivers race vs SVT....runs about the same 1/4 mile (15.3-15.4 sec) as SVT in most mags. It has 15 HP more but an additional 250 lbs so power to weight about the same.

I saw a stock IS300 at Baytown last fall and if your buddies is stock you should be able to beat him. The one I saw was running 15.6's and a stock SVT will do better than that if you can drive. If you notice 1314 ran 15.08 last weekend with only a KKM and Bassani at Baytown.

Well guys I got him buy half a car length. He has the paddle shifters on the steering wheel which is pretty cool. The best I could get out of the SVT was a 15.4. Its so hard to launch these damn cars. But I think I am going to look more into autocross. Anyone around Houston know where I can get started? -whitelx

Just don't take it as a sign that you can beat most IS300 out there. A lot of them got some mods, and are running mad good times. There is a guy that's on the local car forum who has a S/C'ed IS300 that runs 12's, and the car is set up for road course racing.

Sounds like you beat an automatic, if he has paddle shifters. You might have a harder time with a stick shift car in the hands of an experienced driver.
Props for going out there on a track and going head to head, instead of mindless games on the street.

I was thinking you were talking about an MTX. In my 2K SVT running down the front straigh at PIR I couldn't pull away from an IS300 MTX and we're talking 40 - 110 and he was right there behind me. I still couldn't get away from him in the corners either.
I believe the MTX's are .3-.5 seconds quicker then the manumatics.
