I had some injectors cleaned recently. First of all they are hooked up to a fuel rail and pulsed with their individual flow rates and spray pattern checked. Then the tips are soaked in a special fluid and ultrasonically cleaned.
Apparently it's not a good idea to put the whole injectors into an ultrasonic bath as it can damage the injector windings.
