I'm going to get either Optima Yellow top battery OR a dry-cell battery (similar to the Dyna-batt). I'm leaning towards using Dry-cell after seeing the Optima seems like it weights more than the stock one, but I'm also afraid that a dry-cell might not push out enough CCA. Anyways, I want to know what did you guys do to the cable? The stock cable is very stiff and can't really be bent without breaking it. It also has an adapter plate for extra wires at each terminal. What did you guys do? Ripped out the whole harness from the starter on and replaced it with different wire? What did you do to the adapter plate thing?

I just rebent the preformed brackets and it has worked perfectly from installation - barring the fact my alternator died and I drove for a whole day into another state before I found out - thanks to the capacity of the Optima!

I don't understand the whole weight thing, it's 38lbs, 1/3 of a passanger, a medical students book bag...

Definately the Optima has capacity to spare. Long life is also a plus, IMHO. I have had one in my 400 cubic inch V8 GMC VanDura for 10 years now. Also 8 years in my VW GTI (mounted remotely in the rear, to provide a little more weight bias to the rear) w/o an issues. These are nice batteries.

I'm wondering too, I want a better battery than what I have now, even though it is only a year old, it's not good enough for me. A Sear's Die-Hard International is $99.95, how much more are these?

When bought mine 3 yrs ago, I was working for a company that was a distributor, I got mine for $75, it was a no brainer! I had posted a group buy at one point but I had no takers. I no longer am affiliated with that company otherwise I would have started it up again. Advanced Auto has begun selling the yellow and red tops although at a premium. Summit has been selling the yellow and red for some time as well. All in all they could be had for around $100 - $120. I have never seen the Orange Optima advertised but they do exist and it is probably the best starter batery for the car (mines been there for 3 yrs and I have completely drained it several times with no negative effects - Ford even tried to sell me a new battery 2 years ago when my alternator died and I drove for over 100 miles with the stereo cranked, and spent the day with the radio off and on at a Fun Ford Weekend. I told them throw a charge on the Optima, it'll be fine. The severly warnewd me about it and made me state that they had advised replacement, and as of this morning it's still going!

The $110-120 price is for the red top, yellow top will be quite a bit more. I just bought mine from Pep-Boys (all other places sell it for about $20 more) for $160 + tax. It's not cheap...

There are 2 different red top Optimas. The 720 CCA one is in the low 100's and the 800 CCA 'Starting' battery is in the mid 100's for price. They do look a little different, but either is definitely worth the money (I went with the 800 in the trunk).
