I just rebent the preformed brackets and it has worked perfectly from installation - barring the fact my alternator died and I drove for a whole day into another state before I found out - thanks to the capacity of the Optima!
I don't understand the whole weight thing, it's 38lbs, 1/3 of a passanger, a medical students book bag...
