My car's ABS light came on after I drove on snow for a bit last weekend and spun the front tires trying to get out of my parking spot. But ever since that day, the ABS light comes on everytime I start the car and get moving. The ABS still kicks in under excessive braking, but the light won't go off. Any ideas?

The ABS light comes on if there is a big difference in speed readings between the 4 hubs. Spinning your wheels for an excessive amount of time will trigger an ABS light.
Just like the grease monkeys here put my Tour on the treadmill for the NYS Emissions inspection, it triggers an ABS code when the rear hubs aren't spinning when the front hubs are doing 55 MPH. I got the same thing as you right now and I got to figure out how to get rid of it.
I am guessing, but if you reset your PCM, it may take care of the ABS light as well. I haven't tried my OBD-II scanner yet, so I can't tell you if it will work. I'll look it up in my Ford CD Manual and post here what I find.

Here is what I found with the Manual.
When there is a variance in the speed reading for an extended period of time, Code C1222-Wheel Speed Signal Mismatch sets.
There are two types of ABS systems. Mecatronic 3 and Bosch 5.3 ABS. They use different fuse amperages, so by looking at your fuses, you can tell which system you have.
From looking at the diagrams, it looks like the underhood fuse #7 will kill the ABS system and reset the memory. The Bosch 5.3 ABS system also ties into the PCM, so you may also have to reset the PCM to clear history codes.
The other fuses are for the pump motor, ABS light and Stop Lamp Switch.
Here are all of the fuses...
Mecatronic 3
Underhood Pump Fuse #3 60A ABS Fuse #7 20A
Underdash L/H side Central Fuse Box. (this is the box that drops down) Dash light Fuse #30 7.5A Stop Lamp SW Fuse #22 7.5A
Bosch 5.3 ABS
Underhood Pump Fuse #3 60A ABS Fuse #7 10A
Underdash L/H side Central Fuse Box. (this is the box that drops down) Dash light Fuse #30 7.5A Stop Lamp SW Fuse #24 15A

Just give it some time and it will go away. Sometimes (not every time) my car is smogged and/or dyno'ed, the ABS light does that. Can take up to a week to completely go away.

Well, it's been two weeks now and it has not gone away. It doesn't stay on constantly neither. It'll go off after I restart the car, but it'll come on again once I move the car, or after I drive the car for a mile or so.

Does the light flash a code (1 Hz with pauses) or just come on and off when it pleases? If it is the former, read the code and post it here (or better yet, take it in for service--shouldn't trust us on safety questions ). If the later case, it sounds as if it is activating itself for some reason. If you have traction control, it is probably falsely detecting wheel slipage (mismatched tires or damaged wheel speed sensors are most probable causes).

Bummer. Those would be easier to diagnose without a scan tool. It looks to me like the next step would be to bring it in for service to run the ABS self-test (a generic OBD-II scan tool probably won't support this since the ABS is not an OBD-II module).

Been wondering - had a similar problem show up last year temporarily. Since then it has only reappeared once.
After driving about 20 miles in the rain, had my ABS/Brake lights come on. I did check the master cylinder, and it was a bit low (not excessively) and I filled it. As I had just begun a trip - and I could see no specific problems I continued and the brake light went out after another 150 miles -- and did not come on again.
Similar thing 6 months later.
My suspicion was, I've got a short down near one of wheels although I haven't been able to check it out. The light doesn't stay on when I can get to it and try to check.
