In my experience the largest gains were from underdriving the P/S pump itself.

The claimed crank gains of the SHO UDP set is 4-5HP.
If the P/S pulley does even half that (IMO it does over half!) then it's still a push comparing the SHO UDP set to a DMD with a UD P/S pulley! The DMD setup could possibly make more!
On top of that the DMD setup would gain the numerable drivability and longevity benefits running a DMD offers.
