They are cut from the BAT catalog. By looking at the scale drawings, I'm not convinced the E0 pads have more surface area than do the E1 pads. The E0 pads extend closer to the rotor hat compared to the E1 pads, but the bottom portion is much more narrow in comparison to the top, and the arc of the pad is smaller than the E1 pad.
I'm not convinced there is much difference in the surface area.

Well I can tell you from experience, when my pads on my E0 went south, and AZ didn't have any replacements, I installed some E1 pads (had to notch the "ears" slightly but they fit right on) and they only contacted say 60% of the rotor. I drove around for a week like that (waiting for the right pads to come in) and the bottom 40% was all nasty and rusty by weeks end. There is a size difference...
