248 miles / 14.8 gallons? Are you sure you used all of your gas? Unless you ran your tank down to fumes, it would only be accurate to divided by how much gas you actually put in.

For instance, even though my gauge indicates E, the most I can usually put in is about 13.0 gallons. So if I run it down and put in another 13.0 gallons, I have really only used 13.0 gallons, not 14.8 gallons.

It makes a difference: Your case for example.

248 miles / 14.8 gallons = 16.76 MPG

248 miles / 13.0 gallons = 19.08 MPG






If you put 13 gallons in there then you needle should be just below (but still touching) the red line. (just found that out yesterday )
