The reason that there is a rev limiter in park and neutral is so retards won't sit there and blow their motor trying to see how high it will rev. Also the redline is 7000 just because the tachometer has a red bar that continues from 7k up does not mean it should rev that high.

Also, if your 4cyl tour was stick shift, it may have felt zippier than an ATX v6.

Then what stops MTX owners from free revving their engine and blowing them up??? Why doesn't the engine blow above 4000rpm in regular driving?

The engine has a set rev limiter at 6750 or 7000rpm respectively

The ATX PCM has a rev limiter in park & neutral to protect the torque converter. The reason 4000rpm was picked instead of a lower number is that so the IMRC could be checked while in park on the Duratec.

Interesting Demon, how does the load on the engine factor into the equation? I don't know for sure but would't the engine give out revving 7K in the driveway because of no load?

I offer PnP Heads for all durtec's details at PnPheads.com or jesse@pnpheads.com for details.

Once again though....what's the difference b/t this and the MTX as you can rev an MTX to the actual limiter.

I think Demon is correct...it's to protect the torque converter. Wouldn't it be fun to rev the engine to 6750 and drop it into drive???

Hey rollingstash, why don't you ease off, were all in this game together, OK buddy! Any way, my car barly revs above 3,500rpm when it is in drive. I mean I am flooring the S.O.B. and it goes no where. As a reslult I will run a computer check for the cat. and check the IMRC. For all of you who gave me good options to take under consideration i thank you, for all you zelouts who want to call me a retard and an idiot, go [censored] yourself.

Some people might not like your name "FordSucks" so they might not like to help you much. Just a thought.

In your first post you did say it won't rev past 4K in park and neutral. Some people answered to that. Then you said it does it in drive to....which changes the situation. Be sure to be clear with your questions and better answers can be given.

FYI: it makes perfect since to have a rev limiter in P and N. the first vehicle i ever owned was '76 ford LTD when i was 17. i was leaving work when i got this BRIGHT idea to rev the motor while it was in N and pull it down into first. i ended up breaking both u joints and carving up my driveshaft real good. so it was a lesson learned. BTW i was taching about 5k when i done that........

lol....yes, learn to be a mechanic...however, when someone does something like i did....having carnal knowledge of metal forming is a great plus.......it messed up the end caps of my driveshaft real good....i had to use a round file with alot of patience to get the caps starightend out again...
