Focal is some good stuff. I used a Focal TN46 tweeter, Focal 165ZLT woofer, and passive 2-way crossover in my Tour. They sounded excellent. The mids were fantastic.

Their only drawback was their mid-bass response (and my lack of a sub) so I've since been experimenting with different components trying to get good mid-bass AND mids.

Now that you reminded me of them, I might buy them again. The components I just ordered today from Speaker City wasn't available, and I've got a Lambda Acoustics LE12 on order which should really fill out the low end...

BTW, they're the "Upgrade Special" for $129 under the Car Audio tab of www.zalytron.com. You'd also want to buy a good 2-way passive crossover to use with them too.

You could also go the route of buying a set of Focal Utopia components. They'll probably be at the same performance level (with a bit more mid-bass punch) but will cost you around $500.

Focal makes some of the best drivers around.

Throw www.partsexpress.com in the mix. They don't have a huge car audio section, but they have all the odds and ends you'll need at very good prices

You don't need to spend that much money to get really good sound. in my previous car (98 ZX2) i had pioneer head unit, polk components and a fosgate 600 watt amp powering 2 cheap jenson 10 inch subs and it sounded great. all for about $1000

I have a very nice system, just need to replace premium audio amp. I have 2 FX8 Boston's (lows) in the front, alpine SPS-5729 (high) in the back doors, and two 12 inch 800 watt boston subs in a custom sub inclosure I made, that is to the original inclosure specs for the subs. with a Xtang A3001 Amplifier, and Kenwood KDC-X659. Total price was $2100, you could probably by the system for about 1500 now, that was 2 years ago. I would suggest biggger amp though. Mine doesn't power it all the way, the a3001 is a 300 watt amp, or 150 going to two subs. So it doesnt come close to powering the 800 watt subs. But it has very nice sound and base .

jack says: Keep some cash and buy used. You can find some good used ArcAudio, McIntosh, etc....
Same for HU,,,someone is selling a Pioneer P9 combo somewhere, or a Sony C90 with 4000X processor.

Only new should be the Lambda Acoustics sub, and maybe the drivers.

If you want realistic sound, check my stuff:
clicky
Main recommendation is the ScanSpeak 18W/5535A midbass.-
