i have a 98 contour. which i just recently purchased on the 16th. i have already posted regarding a cel. comming on. i think i have found the problem with that....i had it tested and the code was 1131, which the guy said he was sure is a o2 sensor bad, going to have that fixed monday. but now i am back with another question, when i apply my brakes the car feels like it shakes in the front end. it does it more when i stop quickly than it does when i stop slowly. my question is, has this happend to anyone else? i am starting to wonder if i didn't make a mistake buying it. it seems to be as much trouble as my neon was when i had it, wouldn't have sold that to my worst enemy!!! well thank you all for reading my question and if anyone has any ideas or has had this problem please let me know. thank you very much, regina lear

Two little problems and your ready to quit?

Have the brakes checked, sounds like the usual warped rotor. Turn rotors and replace pads, all better.

Should have checked these things out before buying, hope you got a good deal.

when i test drove this car it drove fine. nothing seemed to be wrong. but since i am a female... i don't know a lot....
i did get a warranty on this car but only on the motor and trans. i thought with it having such low miles there would be no problems, at least not this soon. it is not only these 2 things making me regret the purchase. but the 894 consumer complaints on the www.nhtsa.com web site. thanks for your reply i appreciate it and i will be sure to have my rotors checked. regina

I certainly hope you don't believe that! Or if you just mean about cars, you can learn just as well as anyone.

I would have to agree on the warped rotor theory. Thats most likely the cause of your problems. And the Contour is a great car in my opinion.Warped rotors are a big problem in a lot of cars.

AMEN on that, the Ford Taurus is known for this issue, at least the GEN1 thru GEN3 models. I just bought my '95 Contour and knew that the vibrating "front end", upon brake application, was nothing more that out of round rotors. Alot of us have "been there, done that".
Yes, the Contour appear to be a great vehicle. Handles and rides very much like my Passat. Sure beats the Taurus it is replacing. -- Bill
