DO NOT BABY THE CAR FOR BREAK IN. You'll do more harm than good.

The only real thing to follow when breaking in a new engine is not to run the engine at a steady RPM for an extended period of time. For instance, if you are taking a highway trip, every 15 minutes you should dip down into 4th and run there for a few minutes, then back into 5th.

What you are trying to accomplish is to heat and cool the piston rings. Running at a steady RPM or failing to run at all at high RPM will not accomplish that at all.

Granted, you shouldn't be hammering the car from idle to redline for every shift either for, say, the first 1000 miles. But don't be afraid to drive it.

Of course, it's always a good idea to change the oil and (especially) the filter after 1000 miles.

And finally, follow the manufacturer's instructions on breaking in the new clutch.
