ok, some of you might know i went to have the transmission replaced in my car, they specifically said "you will be getting a BRAND NEW transmission" well last night i was outside cleaning the mass air sensor and tb, and i look , and there is this sticker on it, whats it say? FORD QUALITY RENEWED. what the hell?? that highly makes me doubt it's any kind of new, other than NEW to my car. or new to the box they shoved it in to get it out of.... i'm thinking of going back to them and yelling at them like crazy, that's crap. mad

This is an ongoing problem due to the fact that no new Fords take the V6 MTX75 in the USA.The only 'true' NEW trans is the post summer 2000 that has the later non-ally shift tower with a plastic cover over the levers, this is a Mondeo level trans, anything other than that is a recon/rebuild.......

Sorry, but yelling won't get you anywhere. This is the way it is, the way Ford wants it done. If the cost, parts/labor, exceeds the specified amount allowed by Ford for the dealer to rebuild it, you will get a factory reconditioned unit. End of story. Yes, whoever told you otherwise at the dealer was either totally mistaken or...........

Ford will only issue a "Brand new " transmision if the vechicle mileage is realy low, other then that anything else is a factory rebuild.

Terry's right about all of them being rebuit. When my car was in for the third gear grind it took them five weeks to finish it. After the third week I spoke with my neibor(Field service engineer) for ford.I asked him if it would be worth me trying to get a all new trans from ford.He told me no don't do it,they will only give you a rebuilt trans and you never know what kind of condition the trans was in before they rebuilt it.

A rebuilt may be better.

Many brand new components are simply assembled and most of them work.

A rebuild, if done right, has all tolerances checked and so forth.

So a rebuild can be a higher quality unit.

I'm not saying Ford's transmission builder is a Terry Haines, but you have a better chance of getting one there, than on an assembly line of people who just throw the specified parts in there.

I wouldn't worry about it being a rebuilt tranny, as long as it works well.

FWIW,

TB

The current 2.5 Cougar has transmissions that have been stockpiled for EOP (end of production) since 2000.They are not the latest 'Mondeo' type transmissions. The 'rebuild' is only good if it contains those latest level parts re sycros, blocker rings, selector forks etc.Almost ALL of the internals, including the diff gears, have been upgraded on all the post summer 2000 transmissions, the ones we hardly ever see!,the chances of getting those 'latest level' parts in your trans are slim to none...I have a trans in the shop that is still waiting for the latest level selector forks (Mondeo style), one comes from France the other from Spain...the 'rebuilds' are using up the 'old stock' & 'old level' parts...
