I am going to attempt to transform my headlights to the Hightower headlights. All it is is sanding the "flat" spots on the reflector and taping it off then paint. Correct? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

I'd say the hardest part is taking the assemble apart and putting it back together. But, yes, sand, tape, then paint, that's it. Good luck!

I have found the chrome film can be easily removed w/ 1000 grit wet sanding or some laqure thinner. Be mindfull of this as you mask (which should be done with a 3M blue tape or another brands light tacky tape that barely grabs) and stuff. I left the reflector area with the chrome since I removed the amber reclector lense all together in hopes it'd look somewhat legal at night. Here are some pics of mine that I did to give you a better idea. pics..........

Swazo, what sort of glue did you use to put your lights back together? And how did you pry them apart without doing any damage? That's the scariest part for me.

I am currently working on this very same project. I am working on the 2nd Gen of MM lights. Taking these lights apart is no easy task. Be careful, or else you'll end up at Ford buying a replacement headlight, $248...

Pry?? Ouch...no, no no! Oh no prying........::sniff::, you've gotta cut the lenses off! I used a makita drill and a whole bunch of cutting wheels from Sears. Get the heavy, or "extreme duty" type...it'll make life much easier. To answer the next possible question (that I can think of anyway), you can see where the lense and the black housing snapped together and was glued to seal it up, and I just cut along that seem about 1/4 - 3/8" deep or so. Though you can't hurt much going deeper, but it'd be better to be safe than sorry....and it'll save you from changing a broken cutting wheel by staying shallow on your cutting. After the painting was complete and they had plenty of time to to flash and release all of the solvents in the paint, I used black silicon to seal them up. It does a great job if you sand the cut edges of the housing and lense.

I've heard of people salpping them in the oven and THEN prying them apart. It could work, but I know how my luck with something like that would go.

Might be worth looking into though if that works with our headlights. I know they do on other types.......
