I was wondering does a true dual exhaust set-up sound better than a system such as Bassani, how loud is it ?
Does it provide better gains than a single pipe systm ?

It depends on what size of pipe you us. I know that if it is to big then it will reduce your torque on the lower end. But it should help give you a little more Horse if you get the right size.

imho a true dual system sounds much better than a qausi dual system because it eliminates most of the rasp. Depending what kinda of mufflers/resonators or lack there of depicts how loud the setup would be.

I would like to add to this post. I am wondering if 2.5" would be to big for the dual setup? I am planning on doing a supercharged 3L in the near future so I would like to know if this would work for it. Also I found a muffler by flowmaster that is a low profile muffler and it has dual oval inlet and outlet, it is used for racing. Does anyone know if this would be to loud or if it would be way to much flow and cause power loss? I found it in the carparts.com site. just look under performance parts for the SVT and you can find the muffler I am talking about.

For an SC'ed 3L, I'd start with dual 2.25" and only go to dual 2.5" if you P&P the heads and/or add boost or a water to air aftercooler...

Thank you for the advice Brad I am looking to find another muffler now that is 2.25" cause I don't know if I will be able to get the heads P&P'ed.

In all my experience, I've found that a true dual exhaust system kackles (glasspack type rasp) more when both engine banks are on separate pipes (cylinder firing strokes are more broken apart), until you ad in a crossover tube somewhere in the middle of the headpipe that allows the 2 pipes to be connected, and so the frequencies from each bank's pipes help cancel each other's sound out. This observation is based on several different cars of mine in the past, and of friends cars, from when I used to always dragrace in the old days (track only). Rumor from all the 5.0 Mustang mags sais crossover pipe is worth some extra torque too. But it's true though, that I much preferred the sound after, installing the crossover pipe. Got rid of the glasspack sound. Please note that these observations were all encountered on V8 engines. I'm pretty sure the same applies with V6 engines.

I think that 2.5" duals is just too large.

Most high powered turbo'd cars run single 3"

2.25" duals have ~10% more pipe (flow) area than single 3" & should support 400-450HP without any problems.

Dual 2.5" piping has ~37% more piping area! (over 150% greater then stock SVT exhaust - sans resonator of course)
Significant loss of velocity versus dual 2.25" I don't see even a boosted 3L engine pushing enough air to sustain optimum velocity. Not saying it's not possible however, but flowing around 50lb/min of air into a 3L would be a tremendous accomplishment.
I'd sure like a ride though!

For reference - Dual 2" has only ~13% less area then single 3". (and NO Y either, but thats another story)

We won't even get into trying to fit 2.5" dual piping in the space provided.

I recommend dual 2.25" for any S/C Duratec and dual 2" for any NA Duratec.
