Does anyone have a suggestion that might help me sell my 96 GL (Don't mention the tranny Mark)? I have tried numerous postings in the Autotrader and no luck. Would I be better off in the local papers? Any help/advice is appreciated.

Might want to try: - local paper(s) - posting flyers at university and college campuses Or...put a big sign on you saying you got saying "RIDE FOR SALE" (although, some people might call you in for that  )

How much are you asking for the car? What colour is it? Is there anything wrong wiht it? I will ask around and see if anyone Ii know in Burlington wants to buyt eh contour.

I am asking for $6000 obo, I would take $5500. I have had an offer of $4700 from a dealer but I figured I could get the $5500 or better myself. I am beging to doubt this. The car is dark metallic (Tropic) Green almost like the SVT green. There are no problems with it other than occasionally in cold weather it will idle poor at startup nearly to a stall and then rev to 2500rpm and then it is fine. This is being caused by either a dirty MAF of faulty IAC valve, I have not had the time to isolate the cause. If you know any perspective buyers I would appreciate you sending them this way. The car is in great condition and is near stock. The only mods it has are a K&N (potential cause of the dirty MAF) and a painted front grille. I always knew these cars were a loss on resale but this hard to sell is rediculous. Any help is appreciated.

I think the best solution is to write "free" in the back door windows I'm jokin,, i got a 98 GL for sale for 6 month ago now and i got some problem to sell it and the car is in perfect shape  dont know what's wrong with those car?

Hard to beat the Saturday Star's Wheels section for GTA coverage.
Although the search on autotrader website is good the mag itself requires cover to cover reading, since cars are not listed chronologically. The pics attract buyers, however, that are not car specific in their wants.
The $4700 from dealer is surprisingly good, remember another member recently got $5400 for a 98 Mystique LS on trade-in albeit with 157K km. It had rebuilt atx.

And I pimped that car out to every Toyota and Subaru dealer I could find. In fact, Rob's got the snow tires from it. Also, the $5400 is probably a little inflated, since that was the haggling number (dealers are still getting MSRP for the popular Matrix). I was originally offered anywhere from $3500 to $4500.
Rob, I'd take the $4700 and run away, especially if that's for a trade-in and you get the tax savings out of it. I don't want to think about how much money I pumped into that car between 120K and 157K, but I know it's more than $4700. There's no way I could have sold that car privately and looked the buyer in the eye.

If it had a MTX I would have considered it buying it even though I would be gutting the whole car and ditching the engine and tranny....but I would need to drive it for a couple of months before I do that.
As for suggestions...if you can not see it on autotrader....hmm..did you try the Buy and Sell newspaper? their ads used to be free, I sold one of my old cars in 2 days on there....
