I thought you'd all find this interesting. I noticed that there is a cat recall on my 95 Contour 2.5L GL. The recall states that the precats and the Y pipe along with the hoses that connect to the EGR tube have to be replaced. If the 3 way catalyst converter is plugged then they replace that also.

I had a 45 minute discussion with the Ford dealer about this. At first the technician told me that these would be replaced if they found a problem. If no problem found they would charge me $90 for testing. I explained my understanding of the recall and showed him the Dealer letter from Ford as well as the replacement instructions, etc. He went back to the service manager, talked with him and came back saying that the 3 way catalyst has to be checked and replaced if bad. I sent him back to the service manager and then he came back saying the service manager said the exhaust system is one piece and you have to replace it as a whole. I good naturely said that was just plain wrong and asked to talk to the service manager myself. I had to go over the letter point by point and show the labor breakdown and Ford instructions before this guy yielded!!!!!

Why are the dealers so difficult in performing warranty work like this? I wouldn't be in there if Ford did not issue the recall????
