HI back in september I got my recall letter for my 99 countour dash. I took it to my dealership(where I brought it) on September 7. Since that time I have called several times and they keep telling me they cannot get the part in. Finally on December 20 I took my Father and we went in person to the parts dept and got the same song and dance. they said that the company was not sure what casued the problem therefore they were not sending out the parts. Everytime they gave me a diferent number of dashes that had come in first 6 then 3 then 12 who knows. Is anyone having the same problem? Other than sometimes having a problem getting into my vechile because of an injury I love my Car. I get great gas mileage, it does not uses oil and it will go places my husband will not believe.

There is a problem getting the new dash's. From what I was told by Ford customer service new dash's were being made[better dash's] and that was the reason for delay. The dealer ordered mine about the same time yours was ordered, I was just notified last Thursday that mine had arrived. Yours should arrive before too much longer. I know it has been a pain in the a$$ to get this fixed[certainly been a pain in mine!] However IF the new dash's are made of better materials I will wait. Hope this helps.

I am glad I am not the only one having problems. Like you if the new dash is better then it is sorth the wait. My vent has pulled really lose and if I don't keep my radio on loud then the noise it makes when it hits the windshield is annoying! My dealership is about one hour away and I start an ew job in Jan. When this new dash comes in it will be a hardship on me to get my car there but they assured me they would work with me when the time came! Oh well it will probably be like the windsheild gasket it took them three trips to get in on!

We have a Mystique in the shop that needs a blue dash. It has been on back order for at least six weeks. Don't worry, we have not inconvienced the customer. It belongs to our used car department. They don't want to put it on the lot until it is fixed.
So yes, the demand has been high and Ford is having trouble meeting it, especially in some colors. It isn't the dealer jerking you around, it's Ford.

Better ones are being made?! I had mine replaced a few weeks ago, and it took three days(I had it in for service) with no backorder! It was kinda dusty when I got the car back, do you think they may have replaced it with another defective dash they had in stock? Oh no!

ordered my dash the first week of Sep. Finally got a call saying that it was in. Thank God, cause it looked like I was driving a white trash car, all broke and 5h1t.

Yup, same here, two different dealerships told me they don't have the dash and they don't know if they will ever get them in. I'm really getting fed up with the poor Ford service in my area. Just for example, I've had my Contour in two different dealerships FIVE times because my radio goes "out", mainly when it's cold or when I hit a big bump and then the interior lights don't work and when you depress the brake pedal it makes a "clicking" sound near the shifter area. There has to be a loose wire, because when I press my foot in a certain area under the brake pedal near the fire wall, I can get the radio to come back on. Ford CLAIMS there is nothing wrong. Figure that one out. It just doesn't pay to own a Ford around my neck of the woods. Something needs to get done soon. Both sides of the vent in front of the dash is up against the window. Pretty soon I'm just going to rip it out myself!

I am due to have my dash replaced on 1/3...so what do I have to do to ensure that my dash is one of the better ones, and not another cheesy faulty dash?
FWIW, my dealer was able to source and obtain a new tan dash within about 1 week. Is that luck finding a new quality replacement dash, or finding another one of those crap-ass ones that will fall apart like the original one?
TIA,

I had one replaced under warranty before the recall. Then the recall, what Sept?? Took it in at the beginning of November. Took four weeks to get the dash in. I took the car back to have it put in and found there was a gash in the new dash. well, another four - five weeks passed and now I have a nice new dash board in my car.
Haven't had any problems yet.

all this talk about dash colors makes me think about why the dash in my car is a lighter color of tan than the rest of the interior.
