You can remove the transaxle (and subframe) by dropping them down with the car on stands. Haynes manual suggests lowering the engine, tranaxle and subframe as a unit using a special support. But then you would need to raise the body high enough to clear the engine. I don't know if the engine alone could be raised thru the hood after the transaxle was removed. Has anyone tried this?
