its a 98 contour svt and it has about 91K on it... and my air/fuel mixture saids its rich... it just stays on rich side, it wont move at all... and i look at my spark plugs and you can tell it is running rich.. andi havent got a CEL light... it came on once and went back off and thats all....
a bad O2 sensor, engine coolant temperature sensor, or MAF can cause a very rich condition. Or anything which prevents closed loop operation. A code is usually stored for that.
How does it run from cold to hot and with different outdoor temps?
Check the oil for the smell of gas. Change it immediately if it's thin or smells like gas!

... And, just to cover the basics, is the engine coming up to operating temp -- and does the processor know it? If your thermostat or coolant temp sensor has gone south, that could keep your mixture running rich.
How can you tell if your car is running to rich or lean?? can someone enlighten me on the lingo/terminology??? Not quite savvy, in mechanical terms, NO!... medical terminology yes!

if you're looking at a an air/fuel ratio gauge (led type), then check your connection to the o2 sensor.
sounds like you only have the power connection ok....
no connection to o2.

Oil smells like gas? Only ways for this to happen is an open injecter when off - fuel drains down past the rings. PCV is not working and the blow-by is staying in the crankcase. Overly rich mixture - You will know it when you see the cloud of black smoke and if the CAT is still working it will be white hot!
