Wow. I never knew engine braking was bad. I knew it would be bad to over-rev the engine, but I didn't even think about wearing out the clutch! Guess I need to "unlearn" that habit.

Well, I blip the throttle to syncronise the rpms when I "engine brake" so I am not wearing much on the clutch...or the brakes for that matter.

Haven't worn out a clutch to date from engine braking. Unless the clutch is slipping, I don't see how you're wearing it any faster by using the engine to slow the car down.

Taking off from a dead start is alot harder on your clutch then engine braking. I've put almost 100,000miles on my del sol (150,000+ miles total) and it still has the original clutch. I also beat the living hell out of it every day and drive 120 miles round trip to work!!
no clutch problems here, then again it is a honda!

I wore out the clutch on my Acura Integra... but it was at well over 100K, so I thought that was pretty good.

Well, here's one source that says "It depends."
