I have a question? Every time I got into 3rd it grinds. I push the clutch all the way but still grinds, grinds a lot more at a high RPM. Is this my clutch going out or something else ... any help would be nice...thanks in advance...

Third gear syncro. You are not the only one with this problem. Shift VERY EASY into third to lessen the chance of grinding... Alex in Boulder, CO 95SE MTX 157hp 151tq before latest mods...

Is this something that I will have to have Ford fix or what? I bet my warranty doesn't cover this either, right? And about how much will this run me to fix ... thanks for any reply guys ...

Happened to me. It was like that when I bought the car, grinding into 3 and 1st! They fixed it free of charge to me. I would think this would be covered under your warranty.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! My 3rd gear does that too. I know it's a syncro but how bad will that effect our cars? is it affect or effect? I've been doing the "hold the clutch in till the RPMs go down" thing and that seems to work... But sure does suck when you got to race someone.
My question: What is the worst thing that could happen if I dont fix this? I've heard that the reason for the syncro being chipped is bad drivers. They are speed shifting and either push in or pull out before clutch is fully engaged. Is that true? I only ask because I really have no idea.
I know the SVT is a bad A$$ car, but you don't have to follow me home just to tell me.
I know.

Well I just had mine fixed under warranty but his estimate was between $1100-$1300 to have it fixed. I drive my car hard and I did miss shifts occasionally but not often. My buddies went out at 20k miles while mine went out at 60k. So it is possible it is just a weak part. If it is factory warranty then they should cover it, no ?'s asked.
Nothing bad will happen to your car, just 3rd gear will eventually be useless (can't shift into it at all). I had mine broke for 7 months and I was still able to shift into 3rd just not quickly.

It's probably the blocker ring in the synchro hub. The part itself isn't that expensive but it is the labor that will kill you. If you do bring it in, try to get the blocker ring replaced with a 2000 or higher model year because they have a coating on them that helps them last longer.

I just took my car to service today because of that and an oil leak. I'm glad I'm not the only one that has experienced this. I guess it is the syncro but I dont know much about that kind of stuff, I just take it in. And my car only has 16.5K miles.

Don't take your car in just yet. My car has been in the shop for a ****ing month already for the same problem.the reason i tell you to wait is that the parts (blocking rings)to fix it are being held up by Customs.I was told this by my friend (field service engineer for ford). He talked to the dealer to find out what was taking so long. After he made some calls that is what they found out.they also said that no dealers had these parts. I was told it might be done this week.Calling them on wed.I'll keep you updated. All under warranty though
