true or false:
A lighten flywheel puts less strain on the crank, thus helping the DMD do its job better, or possible eliminate the aftermarket DMD all together?

I would say that it would put less strain on the crank due to the fact that there is a lower moment of inertia on the crank due to the lighter flywheel, thus the amount of twist is reduced. The DMD shouldn't and wouldn't be eliminated. I would recommend that it be fitted, every time.

I wans't in particular talking about elminating it all together....what i ment is what if you didn't replace the stock DMD with the European one from the Mondeo, would you need to still having replaced the flywheel?
Sorry, i probably didn;t make myself clear.

The stock pulley dampener is NOT a Dual Mode one, anly single mode. So regardless of what flywheel you have. You should fit one of these for peace of mind.

Thank you very much for the answer. Any news of where i can get one. When I checked a week ago, SP,and BAT said there still wasn't enough for the demand.

I want ALL the power I can get to the ground!
dido seeing as though my clutch went out. thinking ahead for the turbo i went with the cf dual friction. since i dont have brain damage i too went with the fidanza flywheel. its no sense on taking the tranny out twice , once for the flywheel and then the clutch. while all thats out ill be going with a quaife, zetec final drive, basically rebuild from terry haines. why make more work for your self.

Sounds like a good plan! I personally don't think that there is a significant reliability issue with the fidanza, especially considering the number of successful users out there. I just wanted to point out that there was some basis for its consideration. When I beef up the trans I will certainly entertain adding one though I am still not convinced I will really miss it. I considered that when I had the motor out for the 3L swap in Dec 01, but costs were already too high and I decided I would wait until I could afford to do the whole trans.

With regard to a lighter flywheel putting less strain on the crank:
How does the small change in twist/strain due to changing the flywheel compare to the amount of strain generated by the simple act of engaging the clutch and moving a 3000# car? I mean yeah, there is a change but so what when dumping the clutch on a fast take-off is what the engine is designed to do and must generate a tremendously higher amount of strain. So I ask is this truly worth consideration? It's like telling someone that the distance to their house is 4.54781 miles!
Lighter mass = more acceleration to the wheel and quicker rev's are the only benefits worth mentioning I think.
