Well every wire in my engine compartment is toast! (It's all one harness)I recently found out that while there is no recall for my car on this, there is a "Customer Satisfaction Program Action". It is 8 years 80K miles and if they agree they do it for free. And mine is pretty bad. It is CSPA #99M03. I hadn't seen posts on this before so I thought I'd pass it along.

This is a 'long standing' issue on older Contours.I dont think it was a recall as such.I'd chech with Ford.I think if you have major wiring issues they will change the engine harness...

Had mine done 2 months ago. Had 118,000 miles on mine. Had to pay 20% because I was over the 100k limit.

If they plan on taking your engine out to do this, I would ask them to offer you a discounted price to change the oil pan and rear main seal since they are down this far.

It's an extended "fix only if broken" kind of thing. I have my letter around somewhere for my 97 - seems the wires Ford used don't hold up to environmental extremes that well, sort of like there rusting springs in the contour and rusting wheel bearings in the focus.

Well I am seeing wiring through the insulation and one of internal wires is not connected, so I have 160540 km on my 97 contour V6 LX and I am seeing if the job will be done. I plan to get this fixed so that electrical problem won't give me more problems in the future(after warranty is gone). My cel light is on, after a recent fix to the ABS module, and then have to fix that too.
I hope this goes well. The deal is 10 year/100000 miles = 161000 km. So I won't be traveling this weekend. Also my speedometer goes right high when theres snow or heavy rain, not sure it this could be another issue. Internal wiring is showing, and eventually the heat from the engine will melt these two. So word of the wise is get this done if your in my boots.
