Lately my 98 SVT has been driving weird. My RPM's kind of drop sometimes with the clutch in to the point where it occasionally stalls. Plus it feels a little powerless. Went to Autozone where they pulled the code P1518 (for free!!!)Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Open. The Haynes, or Chilton books dont discuss the IRMC at all (how to test, repair, replace) Does anyone know how to do this? Will this fix my RPM problem, the code and my slug SVT? Or is something else (IAC, MAF, etc..) possibly causing this problem and making the 1518 code come up? Thanks

Have you tried resetting your PCM ?? Pull underhood fuses #4 and #11 and wait 5 minutes. Reinstall the fuses and then start the car, and let it idle until the cooling fan comes on. See if your CEL comes back. If it does, then your IMRC may be bad.
Have you ever cracked your secondaries ???

I dont even know how to crack them. Someone told me carbon build-up could have caused the IMRC to stick. Also mentioned that the IAC may be faulty. Hmm?????

Get a hold of Mastamoon on NECO or here. He is the "masta" of the IMRC, it almost led him to selling the car but he finally figured out it was a bad wire! After replacing the IMRC, ECU, etc. The good thing is that your not hurting anything but you will have to use more gas to take off and Masta mentioned that he had to slip the clutch sometimes or it would bog due to more air entering the engine. Like I said get a hold of him and he'll tell you as much as you need to know. Good luck and post what fixes it when your done!

I had a code from the IMRC. The IMRC and the grommet needed to be replaced. I replaced one and not the other. The code went away but the power was still gone. The grommet connects the linkage and the butterfly opening rod.

The IMRC is controlled by that little aluminum box under the water pump pulley shield, right? I checked my system out and found out that the cable snapped. thats why i got the CEL. What i need to know is 1)Whats is the OEM number on the IRMC 2)If just the cable snapped do I still need the "little box" or can i get just the cable 3)If I cant get the items seperatly, and i order the IRMC will everything i need be included i.e. box, cable, retainer 4)How much is this "kit" and 5)anybody know where i can find one for a good price. Sorry about all the questions but im just anxious to get this fixed. Thanks

I doubt that Ford supplies parts for the runner control box. It might be worth trying to take the box apart to see if you can find a way to replace the cable by itself. Otherwise you will need to purchase the entire box. If finances are tight, it might be worth trying to find one in a wrecking yard.

1. That IS the IMRC (Intake Manifold Runner Control) 2. The IMRC only comes with the cable IIRC. 3. It's around $100 & only available through the dealer.
