Sorry just one more question. If the car is parked and you gave it gas, would the IMRC engage and the secondaries open up, or do you have to be driving the car for the IMRC to engage?

I had to replace my IMRC. I bought a new one from Ford Outlet .

It was easy to replace. Make sure you buy the $5 grommet.

While revving the engine in park,
Quickly snap the throttle open.
As the revs drop down, you will see the secondary valves open and close momentarily.

Can the IMRC be bad and not trigger a CEL? Example:IMRC recieves sigal from PCM but motor doesnt turn. One more thing, if the imrc doesn't open one time and triggers a CEL and the next time it does open will the code be "erased" and the CEL will turn off? Thanks

IMRC's are a b!tch..

Atleast yours is a physical problem that can be seen. Mine turned out to be a shorted wire.

I believe this was a major problem back in the day with the IMRC... I think Ford did a recall on it or something, It happens when the wire rubs against the pulley that is under the cover.

Glad you know what it is already and should be able to fix it quickly.

About your questions.. Not really sure. If your IMRC doesnt open once, I dont think it will throw a CEL at all. If it happens more than once on seperate "key-on's" you should get a CEL. I know mine wouldnt throw a CEL on the first start after a reset of the ECU, but the next key on would.
