Are you sure? My aunt's Mystique has premium sound logos on the grilles but she has the tape deck and no external amplifier. Myu brother has the external amp and no premium sound logo. I think fors pasted those on at random. To check, open your glove box ALL THE WAY until it drops straight down. The amp will be sitting back there.
i had a cassette deck and premium sound logo. amp WAS behind glove box, is now sitting in my closet.
now officially a troll, i guess. used to have a black 96 SE, until it broke down one too many times.
now I'm hunting for a motorycle.

Like I said, cassettes can have premium sound..I have cassette, no logos on the doors, and I have the little silver amp behind the glovebox.

Yup, 3 bolts and unplug. Should take all of 5mins.

My factory amp is still in the dash taking up space. But I wired around it, it was easy and cheap to do. The hard part is figuring out the wires.

what are the dimensions of the factory amp?
I wonder if usamps makes a four channel amp with similar small dimensions that could be mounted in the same space the factory amp is located.
What are the small dimension amps out there?

Check out the Blaupunkt "Class T" amps. They're the smallest, cool-running, higher outputs amps that I found. I've been thinking of the 4ch model (100x4) or mounting an XM tuner module in the factory amp location.

Can't really rely on what's embossed on the speaker grilles, or on the fact you have cassette. You really have to look.
Both my '98 Windstar and '99 Mystique have stock Ford AM/FM cassette units. The Windstar has got "Premium Sound" embossed on the grilles, while the Mystique has got "Stereo" on the grilles.
The Mystique has got the amp behind the glove box (and the second (audio) connector which is next to impossible to find around here, while the 'star has teh tandard sound option (with the twin connectors you can find in just about any corner store).
