Speaking from experience racing on Road Courses/AutoX's/Drag Strips, it's a Drivers Field, especially for the first 2. Take the best driver put him in a mediocre performance machine then put an average driver in a high powered machine and chances are the driver with more experience will still win. I won't go into my personal experiences but when comments are made that "I drove so fast onto the rear of a high powered car that I drove that racer right off the race track," obviously the caliber of Drivers needs to be raised, because I can tell you, you would never be able to run me off the track, better yet have fun trying to stick with me!!!
I side with Dan Nixon's comment, in MOST cases, especially on a fast road course, with 2 very good drivers in both either a High Powered Camaro/Mustang or Corvette against a Contour, the Contour should almost always get it's A** handed to it, almost always, though I have stepped cross that line already (though my SVT is very highly modded for track conditions)
Iv taken out camaros,Iv been spanked by them. I'v take out Corvettes, and i'v been murdered by them.
I believe your right it all depends on the driver. being though thet my contours suspension is still stock i still have not reach my cars true potential.
I to have also raced.Mainly in BMW club racing and NASA sponsored events. My work has about 3 BMW touring cars. 2 M3's and one 325I. I must admit the power the M3's have can scare inexperienced drivers. So i can see how a person in a Comaro(z28 or SS) Can be scared of turns(especialy since Front wheel drive cars have an advantage in turns).
But i have also seen 2 almost equal drivers ( one in an porsce 911 the other in a RSX-S) Go at it the the RSX driver kicked his but.but then 5 months later at the same track they went at it again and the porsche won.
Theres a lot of factors involved, car(performance mods), driver, weather, road condition, tire conditions and just pure BallZ.
So to say that drive can make all the difference is correct. But to say that a Contour should lose most of the time I must disagree with. I Have only lost 50% of the time.Thats including stock, and slightly to medium modified cars. Maybe its becasue Im a better drive 50% of the time or there worse drivers 50% of the time.
But on things for sure, after driving my 1999 SVT, if i were to get another car I would watch my back if one of these came up behind me.
