Mine does not get that hot at all! I promise! It absorbs some heat, but thats its job. Granted I have the BAT intake pipe wrapped around to the front of my car, but I have made four diff ones all out of sheet aluminum and had good results from all!

I really do like the design & shape.

If something could be done to block the heat transfer of the aluminum it could be a nice unit.

Also a fresh air draw is a must IMO.

Looks nice, but as Demon said, it's metal...

Would love to see it in fiberglass/plastic...

I know I could prob find this w/o posting, but can I buy a sheet of fiberglass or plastic at HOME DEPOT? The only thing would be making the bends for the bolts?

I made one out of plexiglass (not quite as much coverage as Alex and Chad's design), but I bent it using a heat gun. Just giving you ideas.
Alex, Chad, looks great. Is there some kind of coating/paint/etc that could help w/ the heat transfer of Al? If so, that'd complete the heat shield. Good work, fellas!

Add some dense cell foam to the inside walls and I think that would help. You might need to put it on the hood as well for those hot days.

Heatsinks are used to pull heat away from a heat source and they are most often made of aluminum, where is your heat source?

Hint... its not on the inside of the heatshield.

? The heat source is the engine, the radiator, and the transmission (to a lesser degree). You could put the foam on the outside of the heatshield but you'll still need some kind of barrier for the radiant heat coming from the hood(on one without an insultation/fireretard pad).
