The thing is if you can keep the mechanism from getting contaminated and freezing, you don't need the upgraded (stronger) release springs. I lubed everything up liberally with silicone and then bagged it and taped it to seal out the elements. Like I said, it's ghetto, but it's also cheap, easy, effective, and it's invisible unless you're under the car.
