My contour's having a whole bunch of problems. It's an 95 V6 LX, automatic. It has some of the symptoms of the 97E61 recall, and I'm not sure if it got fixed for it or not. But the fuel economy sucks like an SUV, the engine has absolutely no power at all, it stutters, and idles rather roughly. The two people with more knowlege than I on cars suggested that it's either the manafold or the catalytic converter.

It's also having the symptoms of TSB 97-11-2 -- What does TSB mean? Is that something they'll fix for free, or what?

Furthermore, the coolant sensor's messing up. It MUST have the maximum amount of coolant or else the coolant light comes on. I took a look at it and it's not leaking coolant, but the light comes on, I add a little bit of coolant to bring it up to a smidgen of an inch to the MAX marker, and it's fine again.

So what is this going to involve, as far as cost, to get it fixed?

97-11-2 Front End Accessory Drive Belt Slippage
This may be a bad tensioner. Or maybe you need a new belt? Maybe they can fix it while in there for the 97E61 recall.

97E61 Emissions Recall - Cat Converter Replacement
Probably the the cause for your rough idle and low power. Typically, the cat gets clogged and bogs down the engine. This should be free, I believe. You'll just need to make an appointment for it.

I believe the Drive belt TSB also has a splash sheild kit for it as well.

Yes a TSB (Technical Service Bulliten)is a FREE dealer fix. Don't worry about costs for them.

Also, the coolant sensor is a tad sensitive about fluid level. You should actually over fill your reservoir by an inch or two, and it won't give you any trouble. Normal for this car. No fix available, I've had the sensor replaced and it too does the same thing.

tsb is free under warranty which I think ran out on '95 for a number of reasons.

price for this one would be
belt $16.76
pulley $6.16
plus .5 hour of labor for a total of $65.55

plus shield. I have prices for that one somewhere at home. may be I'll remember to look it up. it's probably not DIY if you are not mechanically inclined or don't have right tools 'cuz pulley is a b!tch to replace
