I have one question for everyone, does anyone know if you need the timing belt cover cuz, i don't feel like buying the updated one and mine rubs on the belt, the outter edgers are all shiney from rubbing, anyone have an answer for my question?, sorry a lil off topic but thanks in advance

I don't know if you can check the idler condition without removing the belt. Try (1) measuring to see if it's detectably off center, (2) trying to wobble it to see if its centerline can be deflected relative to the metal hub inside, (3) maybe listening to it while the engine's running...

I removed my cover two years ago adn haven't had a problem without it being on there...

thanks, i think i'll just go ahead and replace the idler pulley since it's easy to do and doesn't cost a lot, though I believe most of the noise definitely comes from the bad tensioner. belt dressing makes it go away at idle but get worse under throttle.
