The potenza re950 in 16/225/50 with about 8-10k miles worked very good in 3+ inches of snow last Friday in snow. I passed at least 2 suv's that had spun out (one was a honda crv? if that counts).

I have not had them in ice/slush but on solid snow they were ok, but not great.

But then i live in phily so we only get snow 3 or 4 times a year (it's almost sub-tropic)

I'm not looking forward to trying my S-03s in the snow. Light dusting (like we're scheduled to get tomorrow) I'm not worried about. Accumulation, I will have to remove them for my Blizzaks. Despite how god-awful my car looks with the snow tires on.

I'm just delaying the inevitable

What kind of Potenza's? There are the all out summer Potenza's, and there are all-season Potenza's.

Put my new Potenza S-03 pole positions through the 6" of snow we had in DC yesterday. Not as bad as I was expecting, but I had a little problem turning around on a residential street that had been plowed early on. Also, going up a slight hill (probably 5 degree grade about 1/4 mile) was a problem - finally just wasn't going anywhere, but I let the car slide back a little bit then found tracks to drive in that had been made by a bus to slowly get some momentum again. Thank goodness I am one block from one of the roads that is the first to get cleared and keep cleared in DC. And I am 3 blocks from the metro (subway) so I can keep my car warm and unsalted in the garage and still get around.

Until last night I had less than an 1/8 of an inch of tread on my 225/50 SZ50's. But now, I'm running Potenza 950's as my winter tire, 205/55. They rock! The SZ's were like sleds. It took me an hour to change the tires at my dads shop but three in travel time ,45min alone in my dads lower lot trying to get into the bay! I have pictures of both tires. I'll post later!

BTW, $94 a piece from Luke at Tire Rack!

Andy W. The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?
