just a thought......i had a 1987 Merkur XR4Ti and it was extrememly sensitive to over torqueing of the the lug nuts. (ruined a couple sets of rotors because of this) i then became a member of the Merkur Owners Club of America and their recommendation was not to tighten over 65-75 lbs. this could possibly be your problem, same thing 4 lug pattern. i am very conscious of that on my 98 svt now.

Just to add: Had a brake job done recently, new rotors and pads. It was still vibrating at high speed stops. Waited for the pads and rotors to seat. Still vibrations from "warped rotors". Checked the wheel lugs for torque, all about 100ft.lbs. or more. Dropped that down to 65-75ft.lbs. and did nothing else. The vibration on hign speed stops is greatly diminished or entirely gone after only 1 week. Maybe the Merkur brakes are the same as ours..

Hope this helps.

John

If you were doing high speed stops before the pads were seated (and the rotors seasoned) then there's your cause for warpage.

Well it appears that my rotors were not really warped after all. Simply the wheels were improperly torqued. What I did not say the first post is that the pads and rotors were operational for about 1 month and were vibrating from about 65mph but much worse after the spring shields recall. Today it stops vibration free after a followup retorque of the lug nuts. There maybe many, many unnecessary rotor replacements out there due to improper wheel nut torque!
Regards,

John
