DRIVING HOME LAST NIGHT, MINDING MY OWN BUSINESS AND CHECK ENGINE COMES ON. EVERYTHING RUNNING NORMAL. DISCONNECT BATTERY AND RECONNECT,LITE GOES OUT,  KOOL! TODAY SAME THING HAPPENS...HELP!!!!

The computer sensed that something was wrong, and activated a code and the CEL. There are many things that could have caused the CEL to be activated. When you disconnected the battery, you erased the code that was associated with the CEL, but you didn't solve the problem that caused the CEL in the first place. After driving a while, the computer again sensed the problem, and the code and CEL re-appeared. Autozone will probably diagnose the codes for you for free.

What year, engine, transmission and mileage?
If you have a 95, then you can check the codes on your own.
If you have a 96+, then you can take it to Autozone and get the codes read for free.
Typically the CEL indicates an emissions problem.

thanks for info, however there is no such beast as an autozone in canada. we may get health care free, but not car care!

i saw some info in archives re: cleaning maf, new air filter, bad gas, injector cleaner ect. i'll look into this my ownself before i go to dealer
