Do I get to tear into you too, because I went through two winters (one pretty bad) with my KDW's. Not one problem. Went up hills, went down hills, went around curves, etc... No, they're not equal to their dry performance or to all-season/snow tire by any means, but they are by no means death traps.

Oh damn that was just mean! I mean come on. Yes it's not smart to drive with the KDW's in the snow, but to say someone was stupid enough and gullible enough to do such a heinous action as that...

Officer Cartman, a CEG-er from waaaaay back, whats so wrong with snow tires  Not only are they MUCH safer than the stockers or your "fun tires", but it keeps the miles off your summer tires, increases the amount of fun you can have in the snow and why would you wanna spin your summer tires in the snow when your stuck  Thats very unnecessary IMO, uless you like the smell of burnt rubber or is that your wallet smoking from having to pay for new tires that much sooner or maybe its the smoke coming from out your ears from being pissed that the body shop can't find an SVT front bumper to fix your car from that accident you got into  I don't wish that upon anyone by the way but why "ball walk" about running non- all season tires year round  Again to quote a great American..."can't we all just get along?"

Some of you guys really make me laugh. Noone ever said there was anything wrong with snow tires, but the exagerated insults being put on the KDW's is what I'm "frowning" about. The thing that's wrong with snow tires is that that it's an extra $250 expense for the average person. Also, the guy who started this post didn't seem like it was a permanent move to W. New York. Do I recommend using the KDW's in Canadian winters or for continual snow use. No. Neither does Cartman, probably. But for weekend trips to snow (central New York), a light (01-02), or even a heavy (00-01) tri-state type winter, the KDW's worked out just fine for me. There are no stories of bravado or courage or even voting for Hillary. Just driving to the conditions. Also, I would think the average person driving a Contour drives on paved roads, which are usually plowed. This helps also...

I'm seriously against running them in snow, due that the KDW's are partly to blame for a little "off-road" excercise that I had about 2 years ago with the car (driving to the conditions as well). With any type of ice or moderate snow coverage on the ground, they REALLY suck. I've run a number of other performance tires in bad weather and by far and away the BFG KDW's are about the worst I can remember (older Pirelli PZero's take the Gold for worst wet and snow handling in my book). I'm not saying go out and buy dedicated snow tires, but I'd find some cheap all-seasons or something else, especially if your BFG KDW's are low on tread. Better $200-400 in tires now than run the risk of putting the car off the road...

This is my point exactly. If you're in Michigan, I don't expect you to get it. But I live in New Jersey. In the 4 years I had my SVT, we maybe saw 6 snowfalls. I got caught in 3 or 4 of them. For 4 drives, that maybe equated to 150 miles tops, I'm going to spend $600+ for snow tires? Not for me. Like I said, the first year I had them, I ran with the F1s, and was impressed at how they got me through a storm. A co-worker had to abandon his M3 because he couldn't even make it a few blocks. Now my current rides are RWD, and have big meaty rear wheels. They're just asking for an accident if I attempt to venture out in the snow. If snow comes, I'll probably borrow my mom's SHO (with Z-rated tires) and get by just fine. (While I endanger the lives of all those around me.) Oh wait, I've had more driving traing than 99% of the people on the road.. You should feel safer driving next to me than next to a 6000lbs SUV who thinks he's invincible.

I only had my car in the snow twice with the stock KDW. One time was with 5+ inches of packed snow with no problem but in a dinky storm with only 1 1/2 inch of snow/ice/slush I slid off the road around a bend (no hill) doing an entire 5 miles an hour (no lie). I had no control of the car (that's why I was going so slow.. When I checked the tires the entire tread gap was packed with ice turning the tire into a slick., i checked the tracks in the snow/ice/slush and there was almost no tred mark pattern in the snow. The tire still had a lot of rubber left.
Note to self: KDW and Snow not good. KDW and freezing slush very bad.
The potenza 950's that i currently have worked very good in 3+ inches of snow last Friday in the 225/50 tire size and tirerack only gave them a 6 in the snow. I passed at least 2 suv's that had spun out (one was a honda crv? if that counts).
But then like OfficerCarman said in philly were I live now there is not enough snow to worry, but i do worry about the A$$ in the 4,000+ lbs Navigator
I have 15+ years of winter driving in Pittsburgh / and other lake effect area's (north).
