The KDW is a SUMMER tire and doesn't fare well in ice or snow at all!! If you can't put a different tire/wheel set-up on your car...I'd consider renting/borrowing another to make the trip.

Below is the standard set-up used by most Contour owners who have to endure extreme winter conditions (except those of us who live in the southern portion of the U.S. )

or, found this in the classifieds (scroll down to Blizzak ad):

Once again, I'll come to the defense of the BFG tire. I had it on my car for a pretty decent winter here in Westchester county. I also drove up to central NY (Syracuse area) almost 3 times a month during the winter months and never really had a problem. It's by no means a snow tire, but it's not horribly bad. Only when I had to cut into my parking spot coming back home did I ever not get proper traction. Turning with the tires in heavy snow isn't the easiest task. But remember, in NY, they're usually somewhat prepared for snow, so the roads are usually cleared to some degree.

Any hard packed snow or thick slush and your screwed.
My old KDW's put me in a dish. They don't work too well up here in MI during the winter time. Either get another beater or AWD/4WD to drive or buy snow tires. The KDW's are next to useless if you drive on any decent amout of snow.

Why not get a proper winter tire and drive with confidence...not to mention safety? I drove last night in the snow with my Dunlop A2s. Booken along 75mph on the high-way..sure footed as hell. Saw 3 SUVs...1 truck, and some GM product in the ditch. Save those expensive...no longer availbale KDs for the summer?

That's the best reason I've heard yet to get snow tires over using the BFG's.

(note: I'm serious, not being sarcastic)

Oh yeah, do they not have plows or road salt up in Michigan?

unless u like grinding your gears trying to get up a 3 degree incline, get some different tires. i love the kdw's, but only the kdwS are for snow. s=snow. get it? haha. anyway, do yourself a favor and either get new tires or cross your fingers. good luck...

get KDWS

the KDWS are meant for snow... I have them on my SVT currently in the 225/40/16 flavor

I am now the pound owner of the new BFG KDW g-force 2 in 18"

The tread is so freakin badass!

back to your regularly scheduled post..
