My god, I read this thread 3 times and still can't figure out the best way to do this. Thanks for the great descriptions and pics, guys! However, although I've read and searched this topic, I can never seem to get all the items together for a proper install.
From what I can tell, here are the items that need to be known for a particular install:
- What strut was used for your install (model/part#/length/store where purchased/price(?)) - Mounting points used (ie bottom/top bolt) - Mounting method (drill and tap / simple bolt in / special part) - How well it holds up hood (self rising / needs help) - Any lessons learned
Thanks for all this info guys! Hopefully, we can piece these stories together into a few cohescive 'how to' items. I don't want to buy 17" struts, but mount them where a 16" strut should go, ya know what I mean?

From what i gather the simplest way to do it is the bolt on and to use the holes as shown in this picture but what size and model struts and whatnot

I jusy did the install as listed above by Eric L and it was the easiest thing to do. The struts used were from a GB we did 2 months ago: http://www.contour.org/cgi-ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=27&t=000228 you might be able to still contact Oliver for a set.

Fair enough.
- Group Buy struts - Eric L mounting points (bottom hood bolt, rearmost fender bolt) - Hope the wind doesn't blow the hood down on your head
Sounds like I've got a mod to do....
