With Top bolt on the hood, the strut will not collapse enoguh to allow the hood to shut, we tried it.
Install was a breeze, tighten the hood bolt that remains in, and remove te lower ones and insert the non-self-tapping screw in that hole. Remove the bolt from the fender, and insert the self tapping screw, making sure to use washers in both locations. Pop the end pieces on, and insert the clip.
The hood stays open great, they are not quite strong enough to open the hood w/out human help, but once open they do stay just fine. Closing is quite simple, just push down gently on the hood and guide it wo where you usually drop it to engage the hinge.
I also removed all the writing on them with some Chrome polish and some fine steel wool.
