I have a '95 SE duratech. I want to know how hard it is to swap an SVT engine into it. I am not concerned so much about physically getting the engine in there, but I have a sneaking suspicion that I will have to change virtually every inch of wiring in the car.

Basically, if anyone has done this, please just give me some insight into any unexpected problems.

thanks

you would be MUCH better off going for a 3L. they are much cheaper, and more powerful.

Well, I kinda want a whole car because I want to update a number of things above and beyond the engine. I also think it would be better to swap EVERYTHING over to SVT spec because the aftermarket loves those SVTs. Also, it would be much easier to put in a 3L later on once I switch to SVT electronics and there is something with the knock sensors yada yada yada....

Also, the pass key system...? I think thats what its called where the computer recognises the car's key as an anti-theft system. On a later car, I assume I would have to swap over the ignition/wiring/door locks, and whatever else in order to get the car to start up. Is that correct?

If you have all these plans, why not just buy an SVT?

Cause...a wrecked SVT is fairly inexpensive to acquire. Also, my car has new suspension and brakes. In addition, I like having a sleeper. Finally, I just really like my car. I don't want to go through the time, expense, or effort to get rid of a car that I like.

So is anyone gonna help me out instead of trying to talk me out of it??? If I wanted someone to tell me to leave it alone, I would have asked my girlfriend.

IIRC, Simon was trying to swap an SVT engine into his 1996 Duratec and it was more trouble than it's worth. I too was looking into doing this, but then I realized how much easier the 3.0L is.

Just do the 3L, it's easier because you won't have to pull the engine again when you want 3L. I used the stock EEC-IV wiring harness with very little modifications.

Can you be more specific in terms of what you did for modifications?

If you use the SVT computer you need the harness for the PASS key and all the adl. parts. The pin outs at the computer are differant. I belive it requires much re-wiring.

I agree with above. Put in a 3.0L. Performance parts that work on the SVT work on the 3.0L.

Yes a Wrecked SVT is inexspensive to aquire, but the work involved in moving everything over will be very involved You would be better served to just get a 3.0 and the seats if that's what your looking for.
