Even if it did have the S/C it still rides on the same J-body platform from waaaaaaay back in 1982 when the cavalier, J2000 (remember those), Firenza (how about those "things") Skyhawk ( don't laugh, I had one as my daily driver when I had the 87 GN) Cimmaron ("Cava-lac). One thing about the Skyhawk back then was you could get the 1.8L turbo and later the J2000/Sunbird got it as well. Did I say waaaaaaay back in 1982, damn I was 12 years old and paying too much attention to cars back then
