hard to believe... even though everybody knows there's a problem there....As far as i'm concerned, i'm gonna calm down for a while until we get the new dipsticks!!! mad

Anybody knows when Ford figure it out? Was it just recently or it's been a while since....?

they have known about the starvation problem from the start-
but why - they just found out about it about 10 months ago and the oil in the pan levels only recently- ie within the last couple of weeks.

This isn't the first time Ford had a dipstick problem eek ...I changed the oil in my Mustang 5.0, put in the recommended 5 quarts, and it read almost 1 quart over full. (Yes, I drained both plugs). I posted a message about this to corral.net and someone wrote back saying that:

Ford goofed up on the dipstick.

Since they never bothered to fix it, they issued a TSB stating that the "max" mark isn't really the max mark and it's normal for the oil to be over the max mark after an oil change.

I just used a file to make a new "full" mark after changing the oil and adding 5 quarts.

You have to wonder if maybe Ford goofed up on the dipstick for the Contour, and covered it by specifying a smaller amount of oil rather than doing the right thing which is to redesign the dipstick.

So how much is the new "recommended" amount of oil to put in? I never knew the recommended amount before this anyway so either one will be helpful...

Okay, so what do we do.

Manual states oil capacities at:
Engine oil
- with filter 5.5 l (5.8 qts)
- without 5.0 l (5.3 qts)

Should I put ~6.5l in the tour?

That's funny because my manual says full is 5.2 litres!
