I have been thinking about this alot and I think it would be about the best solution to everything you need. For one you could have it as a dvd player, music storage, audio tuner, systems checker, cd burner, gaming center, I think theres prolly more but im to lazy thinking. Another good point though is that if you add all this up you come out paying less then having bought a whole bunch of car audio stuff. So wouldnt this be a viable solution or not???? Welp thats all I wanna know thanks

do you really need to burn cds in the car?

do you want to risk having an expensive laptop stolen (i assume your reffering to a laptop)

it will get in the way

most laptops, the screen doenst look that great unless viewing it from the correct angle

gaming wont be good for in the car, unless you got games like NFS and have 2 usb gamepads.

conclusion: i always thought when i would get a laptop id always have it in the car. now that i have one, i NEVER take it in the car (dell latitude c840, dvd, gf4 etc) and it plays games great

nope not a laptop just a regulare pc which would be installed in the trunk well the tower would be, then have external drives like a dvd cd-rw combo drive mounted in an out of the way place. Then have a usb hub in the console so if need can plug in extra controlers or what not. oh and a 15" lcd screen mounted so that it will slide out from the space thats convenitaly placed on the backs of the front seats, and then a small like lets say 5 inch screen up front so that i can control things up there too. thats my plan

unless your using firewire or usb 2.0, drives cant be mounted distances like taht

ide is only good for like 2 or 3 ft max

another thought was install the combo drive in my console it would be alittle more work but then it would put the drive in reach of the people in the back seat and if it took running fire wire then I would

It doesn't sound like a bad Idea, but I just don't understand the purpose. People allready have entirely too much to pay attention to while they're driving. Add a purpose, like auto-pilot or something, and it sounds great. But it just sounds like something that doesn't do much, but is cool to show off to your friends.

well yeah it would be just a cool thing to show off to your friends and I wouldnt put anything major up front just like a little monitor so I could do the audio portion of its application. But think about going on road trips with your buds wouldnt they be happier to have something to do on like a 4 hour long drive or so. And havent you ever wanted to get away with your girl but havent had a place to go, and like all you really wanna do is just kick back and watch a video or 2 haha ok well thats a good excuse to be in the backseat with a girl right haha cops pull up honest we were just watchin a movie And purely I would love it for the audio functions as it is I have a deck that plays MP3s and I love it to death but I still have to shuffle with cds every once and awhile why not just leave all the music in one place on a hard drive and if your friends have a cd you like just pop it in your car and there you go you got a copy now too. Like I have said I do lots of thinking about needless thing but everything gots its function and this is like the most money saving/entertaining idea i have come up with yet. And my set up would also be fairly secure I hope. Sense it would sorta be spread out through the car or locked in the trunk. I would have that tower bolted down in my car, no doubt about that or hidden behind a panel cause all it needs to house is the power supply and the cpu and the vid card oh and hard drive so it could be one of them slim compact cases. Gosh I talk to much.... I ramble about things I like I just like the idea of merging my 5 favorite things:cars, computers, vid games, music, and girls in the back seat hahaha oh well. im done

I will keep posting info on this odd little project of mine depeneding if I get the money required which shouldnt hopefully be a prob I might just peice it togeather over a year or so hahaha BUt I really do think that if it comes out the way i hope it will be prolly one of the lasting things in my car well and something that I would prolly transfer to a new car if I ever get one not saying that I would part with my lovely contour anytime soon I gots big plans for this car. Can was say monster v8 haha kidding IM not insane or anything.
