Sometimes, but never when the mechanic is test driving the thing, while I'm approaching a stop, the car doesn't seem to shift down to first. Then as I go, I have to accelerate more as it feels like its in second. Then it will slam into first then jump to second and drive fine from there. It doesn't happen alot but when it does, it's pretty ugly. Already replaced speed sensor and MLPS (whats that?) sensor. Any clues? Thanks, John

If you are doing a rolling stop, the car will stay in second. If then, you push down hard on the gas, it will jump down into first.

Check your fluid and/or change to synthetic fluid.

My automatic has done that the entire two years I have had this car, even with changing the fluid a few times. Ford did not program the computer to shift this transmission very smoothly.

have you tried to reset the computer to see if the problem would go away?

if that does not make the problem go away then one guess would be the electronic pressure control sensor is maybe keeping to pressure to high. I think this would give you an EEC code 624,625,649, or 651.

another possibility is that you could have a shift solenoid sticking occassionally

Ahhhhh... the beauty of an computer controlled tranny!
