I have a 95 mystique and pulled the following codes 461 and 668. I am not able to find out what code 461 is... can anyone tell me?

I had to do some searching to find code 668 and it turns out that is means: Transmission Range Sensor circuit voltage above maximum voltage. Does this mean that the TR sensor is bad or what? I pulled the codes cuz i had a problem where the car was erradically shifting between 2nd and 3rd gears. What does that mean above max voltage?

any help please?

I called the service departments of a couple of dealers today and they would not tell me what code 461 means (or any other one). They said that I would have to schedule a service appointment and have them scan the codes.

So, if any one tell me what this code means I would appreciate it. All the sites that I could find stop at 452. It took a lot of searching to find the 668 code, most sites stop at 657.

again, any help on code 461 would be appreciated.

ON 668:

DTC 668 indicates an open in the TR circuit.

DTC 667 indicates a short to ground in the TR circuits.

Possible causes:

* Misadjusted linkage.
* Open or short in harness circuits.
* Damaged TR sensor.
* Damaged Powertrain Control Module (PCM) .
* Key "OFF".
* Apply parking brake.
* Place transmission in "NEUTRAL".
* Verify that Transmission Range Sensor Tool (Rotunda T91P-7010-AHT) or equivalent fits in the appropriate slot.
* Does the tool fit properly?

Yes -- Remove tool. Go to TD2. See: TD2 - Check Continuity of Transmission Range Sensor Harness
No -- Place the transmission in "NEUTRAL". Loosen the two TR sensor mounting bolts. Move the sensor to allow insertion of the Transmission Range Sensor Tool in the appropriate slots. Tighten the two mounting bolts to specification. Remove tool. Verify shift linkage adjustment. Clear continuous memory. See: Quick Test (Extracting and Clearing Codes)\Clearing Codes

Checking on the other....

On 461 I don't find anything. But here is a range of codes that are close to it. This may be a code related to an option that you have on the car..... Not sure but just a guess. Do you have cruise control? and does it work correctly?

DTC 454
Servo leaking up (KOER lVSC test)

Refer to Cruise Control / Testing and Inspection.

DTC 455
Insufficient RPM increase (KOER IVSC test).

Refer to Cruise Control / Testing and Inspection.

DTC 456
Insufficient RPM decrease (KOER IVSC test)

Refer to Cruise Control / Testing and Inspection.

DTC 457
Speed control command switch(s) circuit not functioning (KOEO IVSC test)

Refer to Cruise Control / Testing and Inspection.

DTC 458
Speed control command switch(s) stuck/circuit grounded (KOEO IVSC test)

Refer to Cruise Control / Testing and Inspection.

DTC 459
Speed control ground circuit open (KOEO IVSC test)

Refer to Cruise Control / Testing and Inspection.

HOpe this helps,
Bob T.

Thanks for the help. I looked at the Mitchells manual at the library... its an excellent manual and went into plenty of detail on troubleshooting the tranny code.

i rechecked the codes a number of times and it sure enough was 461. I checked a number of sources and determined that somehow it just recorded a bad number, no such thing as a 461. i am gonna just clear that code 461 and move on.
