Even with the pedal to the metal it'll shift between 4700 and 5000. What gives??? Oh and this is in drive because I know there's a rev limiter in Neutral at 4000.

The ATx will "learn" how you want to shift. But it takes time. My '96 LS v6 Mystique was not shifting high enough so I would shift manually with the shift lever for awhile and that would get the shift RPMs up. The autotranny will NEVER (on it's own) shift at or anywhere near redline... That's what the shift lever is for. 1 2 drive.... I know it's hard to shift into 2nd and not slide right into drive.... when you are excited... I was thinking of a pin?? or whatever to hold it to 2nd so I could slam it to 2nd and not worry about skipping right into drive. I bought a '99 SVT so I don't have that problem anymore.

My friend had a Ford Tempo (I kow POS) that suffered the exact same problem (except the hardline was 4000 RPM.)
It turned out to be the programming in the PCM. They swapped it out, and everything ran fine. BTW, there original PCM did not throw the MIL/CEL when it went bad.
Nothings perfect.
Good Luck, David

Well I guess I better teach it then. When I got the engine replaced about a month ago I drove it like a baby but lately I wanted to see what it was made of and been punching it so that could be why it's not shifting high. My boss has a 2001 BMW 330 ci and she said that it has a chip that customizes the car to the driver's habit's (shifting, cornering) Is there something like that in my car?
