Considering I sought your advice, I found your last comment insulting. I am a newbie to mods but why do you find it necessary to point fingers at me to say I don't know what I'm talking about. I'm hear for advice and not to be insulted. Thank you cawong11 for your input which clearly showed a 2.5" crush bend improving performance on a stock svt exhaust.

I would just like to clear the air to say that I posted these graphs not to flame or dispute anyone's claims, but just to show the results we saw when installing our custom non mandrel bent exhausts on our own Contours.

Facts are facts, in at least one instance a good crush bend did increase performance over a stock SVT exhaust. This forum should inform not insult anyone. When we think we know everything we are reminded that we may not know as much as we thought we did. Thanks again for the Dyno results and hopefully this will cause more good natured debate.

BTW those SE results are versus the stock SE 2" exhaust size not an SVT exhaust. Of course increasing the size would help comparatively. They are both crush bent.

Also according to other dyno pulls on your site other things were changed besides the exhaust of those 2 runs for the SVT.

Apples to oranges...

Continued in the other thread. with the SVT, no changes were made between these runs. The mods on Run 5 are stated as the mods that were existing at that time. Run 7, only the exhaust system was changed.

Demonsvt , it clearly shows a "good" crush bend can increase performance period. My system definitely has, as my 0-60 times and 1/4 miles times are not far off your times. I have an se with only 2 mods and you have an svt with numerous mods. Case closed in my opinion.

I am enjoying the discussion, not an argument I hope.

I have a non-svt with a 2.5" mandrel custom exhaust.

Lets look at a price comparison. I think that mandrel bends provide more horsepower and is cheaper.

Dynomax WLK-17230 $50
Dynomax WLK-17219 $40
Mandrel-bent tubing $72
Straight pipe tubing $17
Muffler Shop labor $40
Chrome tip $10

Total cost $229 its aluminized not stainless.

vs. 2 1/2" stainless steel pipe, Dynomax Ultra Flo 17263 muffler, Magnaflow 14415 muffler, and 4"" polished rolled stainless steel tip. $540.00

Sold 1998 Contour LX 13.868 sec 1/4 mile time. Two years of rental cars, seriously. Holding out for 07 Cobra Mustang.

ok that is pretty damn cheap for an exhaust...hoosier do you have any pics of your exhaust and can you tell me where you got the supplies from? Also the muffler shop only charged you 40 dollars to put it on?

So MR. Hotdog, you have a contour se, a maxima se, and a new BMW M3, and you are modding the contour!? OK? You also stated that you had a 328, and you said that the new M3 should beat it. What M3 are you talking about? The new one is sick at 343 hp, so you are right about one thing the new M3 should beat it. If you are talking about the old M3, which is still an awesome car, maybe you should say that its used and its new to you. As for your track times, dont talk s#%t until you post proof. Maybe you dont realize how fast 14.75 is. A SE is not going to even come close to that with only 2 mods, unless those 2 mods are turbo/intercooler. So I would love to see your time slips just to see how close you say you are. And as for the RSX type S, my brother in law has one, that car is one bad ass car it weighs 2700 lbs, has 200 hp, and 200 ft. lbs of torque, so Im sorry MR. Hotdog it will take alot more than accurate shifting to run that car. Sorry I had to pull your card. And as for the crush bends, put a straw in a can of soda bend it about 70 degress, and try to suck through it, then tell me that crush is just as good as mandrel.

Getting 2003 BMW M3 this week.Maxima has 4750 miles on it. First time ever modifying a car thought it would be wise to do it first on a 1999 contour with 47,000 miles.Contour ran a 15.1 sec 1/4 mile. I'm not sure where you read 14.75. The stock acura type r runs the 1/4 mile in around 15.1sec. I was ahead by 1/2 car length. He might have been a poor driver. This is my second time ever on a forum. I'm not an 18 year old but a 34 year old bailbondsman. I'm at home because I hurt my back during a pick-up arrest the week before last. Own my own agency so I can afford a few luxuries. I was bored, wife is on business out of town so I surfed online and found this site. It's funny to see peoples reactions to the cars I own or the times I've posted.I'm not sure why some individuals are so offended but I guess that's human nature. To be honest, I think for the price I paid , $13,400 cash new , the contour se sport was a good deal. In all honesty, I think The ford contour SVT or not is a piece of S#%#t compared to other more expensive automobiles. It's a good car new for 13 grand or used on ebay for 2500. I use the car as a pick-up car and to do groceries. BTW the 1999 BMW 328is was a fun car But i'm well aware my new 2003 BMW is far superior. It drove great during the test drive and I can't wait to get it!
